MULTI.form
The "Multiform" phase in Rothko's work marks the transition from his mythological and symbolic works to his more mature classic style. This new form seemed to him to be more organic, and more expressive than the mythological symbolism he had worked with up until this point. The phase lasted possibly less than two years. A moment in time when he opened himself up to a level of experimentation and expression and discovered a style that was to mark his work until death. By eliminating the figurative from his work, he decided to embark on "unknown adventures in unknown space." Multiform.
